Hiroute Guebre Sellassie, a native from Ethiopia, is the United Nations Secretary-General’s Special Envoy for the Sahel and Head of Office. Prior to her appointment of 1 May 2014 by United Nations Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon, Ms. Guebre Sellassie served as the Director of the Political Affairs Division and Head of the Goma Regional Office in the United Nations Organization Stabilization Mission in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (MONUSCO) from 2007 to 2014. She has also held positions in the Ethiopian Government and has practiced law for many years. She was the Oxfam Regional Peace Building and Conflict Management Advisor for Horn, East and Central Africa.
